Jazmine Sullivan: Fearless

Girls got a voice!
There is a flawless break-up-because-he-cheated song on this album.

Paper Bird

A Colorado band that is pure sweetness.
If you get a chance, see them live at a smaller venue.
They tend to perform barefooted.
(If music were Summer in the woods)

Brightblack Morning Light

This album has been a new discovery for me and has taken its place as my evening music of choice.

Brazilian Girls

I love how strange and haunting it is.
It's a good album for walking around the city with no particular agenda.
Two of my favorite tracks are Don't Stop & Lazy Lover.
Listen here.

Jose Gonzalez: Heartbeats

Pretty pretty cover of the Knives song- Heartbeats.
Thanks for this one Steve.

She & Him: Volume 1

Zooey Deschanel & M. Ward
Zooey has a lovely voice.
I don't always love covers, but they put their own pretty twist on well known songs.

Danger Mouse: The Grey Album

Jay Z + Beatles = pretty rad. Oops, but they didn't ask permission. Oh well. I really like it.
Check out the controversy at:

Wikipedia... My official unofficial source.

Jenny Lewis

The word is she's recording a new solo album featuring such artists as Chris Robinson, Matt Ward, Elvis Costello, Zooey Deschanel, Farmer Dave and boyfriend Jonathan Rice.

She is the singer for Rilo Kiley and she's previously put out a solo album featuring the Watson Twins.

Yay for song writers.

Scissors For Lefty: Underhanded Romance

*Comedy you can dance to if you are recovering from self-inflicted Flight Of The Concords overdose. Their photo shoot is reminiscent of the childrens book, The Red Balloon. I like.

Mostly I enjoy the banana.

The Octopus Project: Hello Avalanche

I saw them this past week for $10 at a small dive in Denver.
They are from Austin, Texas.
Yvonne wears pretty vintage dresses even when performing-not just for photo shoots.
She plays a glockenspiel and theremin among other instruments.
I danced a lot and bought the vinyl.

Beach House: Devotion

With Devotion & their self titled album,
Beach House has slowly crept into my heart.
Time spent listening to them on my porch at night accompanied by the crickets has become the summer ritual of choice.

Ian Cooke: The Fall I Fell

A beautiful voice with his cello.
Ian is a local here in Denver.
He's amazing in to listen to live.

Sufjan Stevens: Come on feel the Illinoise

Listen to the track "Chicago"
His lyrics are great.
He has a newer album, but this one's my favorite.
He's super Christian.
His music is super pretty.
It's found on many soundtracks.

Sigur Ros: (Icelandic words I can't type)

The latest from the Icelandic band
has a magical summer vibe to it.
It's so pretty, you don't need to know what he's singing.
The Gobbledigook video is essentially this cover photo in motion.
(A bunch of Nakee friends dancing about the woods)
The album title translates to,
"With a buzz in our ears we play endlessly."
Watch here. (Contains nudity as a warning to those of you who are bashful)

Third

The new Portishead album is lovely.
Sultry vocals with some electronic accompaniment rather than the orchestral emphasis.
It may take a couple listens to get into it if you are expecting a Dummy duplicate.
SEXY

My friend Christy compiled an amazing mix at this site and I miss mix tapes so I made one of my own.
It's a bit crazy.
Get your dancin' shoes.
